Goodna Special School has been operating since 1974 with 362 students currently enrolled. The school is divided into five junctures which are based on the ages of our students.

Prep

Junior Primary - Years 1 - 2

Upper Primary - Years 3 - 6

Lower Secondary - Years 7 - 9

Senior Secondary - Years 10 -12

Our school provides the highest possible quality of educational programs for the students who attend the school. The school has an explicit agenda to improve the quality of teaching and to lift the level of learning achievement by our students.

We have a small but dedicated group of volunteers who are on the P&C committee. They support our students through a range of fundraising activities and are able to provide valuable financial support for activities such as school camps.

We have a range of specialist subject areas that include Health and Physical Education, Science, Technologies (Bush School), and The Arts (Visual and Performing). All students engage with the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 as well as a focus on teaching functional literacy and numeracy in order to equip our students with skills that will assist them throughout their lives.

With the population growth in the western corridor, Goodna Special School is growing and increasing our building capacity. We have recently had additional buildings developed for our Upper Primary and Secondary Schooling students consisting of new general learning areas.

We have had a playground developed for our expanding Prep cohort that includes a large sand pit and climbing frames designed to encourage play and sensory-motor development.

Goodna Special School has also invested in outdoor sensory swings and spin hubs for the students to enjoy on break times.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

Goodna Special School welcomes diversity, and respects individuality by
providing a professional, caring, positive, safe and supportive learning
environment, with specialised education programs and support for students,
families, staff and community.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a whole-school framework that promotes
positive behaviour across the school and helps us develop safe and supportive
learning environments. The plan provides a framework for teaching students to use positive and appropriate behaviours, which demonstrate respect for themselves and others.

Through explicit teaching and positive reinforcement our whole school community
understands these expectations.
- I am Safe – All students can freely participate at all times.
- I am Responsible – Students try and are taught to try their best at all times.
- I am Respectful – Students learn and display how to best act with their friends,
teachers and the community
