Goodna Special School prioritises students starting strong in their first year of schooling. Strengthening protective factors in the early years improves outcomes and makes a positive impact on young people's lives. As such, our school priorities in line with the Department's Equity and Excellence Strategy are –
- Knowing each child and student's needs to support positive and confident transitions into and through school
- Achievement in English and Mathematics
- Maximising learning days
Prep students learn using the Australian Curriculum in ways that are developmentally appropriate. Prep students at Goodna Special School work on building their literacy and numeracy skills through age-appropriate pedagogies, play-based learning and targeted teaching of personal, social and communication skills.
