Goodna Special School has been operating since 1974 and is a Stream 3 Level 9 school with 265 students currently enrolled. The school is divided into five junctures which are based on the ages of our students.
Prep
Junior Primary - Years 1 - 3
Upper Primary - Years 4 - 6
Lower Secondary - Years 7 - 9
Senior Secondary - Years 10 -12
Our school provides the highest possible quality of educational programs for the students who attend the school. The school has an explicit agenda to improve the quality of teaching and to lift the level of learning achievement by our students.
We have a small but dedicated group of volunteers who are on the P&C committee. They support our students through a range of fundraising activities and are able to provide valuable financial support for activities such as school camps.
We have a range of specialist subject areas such as Home Economics, Visual Arts and Personal Development. All students engage with the Australian Curriculum and we also have a focus on teaching functional literacy and numeracy in order to equip our students with skills that will assist them through out their lives.
Infrastructure
With the population growth in the western corridor, Goodna Special School is growing and increasing our building capacity. We have recently had a building developed for our Senior Schooling students consisting of 8 new general learning areas, a fantastic undercroft area, sensory rooms and a state of the art kitchen, allowing our students to learn the valuable skill of cooking. This building was named Yukka Duggan (Work Family in Yuggera language).
Goodna Special School has invested in new outdoor sensory swings and spin hubs for the students to enjoy on break times.
We are currently awaiting a new building construction at the front of the school, therefore leaving our Admin at the back of the school temporarily. This new building will be exciting with new general learning areas, art room and an op shop. Handover is expected late 2023 or early 2024.
